Created in 1841, Giselle has long been a favorite of the world's greatest dancers, from Fonteyn to Kirkland. Adolphe Adam's miraculous score forms the backdrop to a story which requires the dancer's every emotion to be put on display, playing the naive peasant girl one minute and the righteous spirit Wili the next. The ballet tells the story of a young girl who is betrayed by her disguised aristocratic lover. Giselle dies of grief and madness, yet comes back from the grave to rescue him from the implacable revenge of the fearsome Wilis.
This Miami City Ballet production follows the traditional choreography by Perrot and Coralli and promises to be the highlight of the season.
